I am dreaming of a month long vacation on a secluded island in the Caribbean. Just dreaming, mind you. Two more days of 'solving for x' and I am done with Algebra for four weeks. I am trying not to think about next semester, when I will have to tackle it again. Speaking of next semester, it feels good to no longer be the new person on campus. Students have been flooding our campas during the past several days to register for the Fall term. It brings back memories of when I was one of those new students, looking at my map and trying to figure out where each building was located.
As I come to the end of my second semester, I can truly say that I still love college. I love the quarter-mile hike to my classroom, book-bag weighing heavily on my shoulder as I maneuver my way through the halls and then join the crowd waiting for the elevator doors to open. I have a thirst for learning that has not dimmed, in spite of overly zealous professors and the ever-present homework in my backpack. I love the challenge of wrapping my brain around new thoughts and ideas while mingling with fellow classmates who come from various cultures. Rubbing shoulders with older teenagers, who aren't cautious about what they tell me, has been eye-opening for me, too. It has helped me to understand what my own teenagers go through in school and has given me the edge in more than one discussion with them.
I am happy for the upcoming break from school, when I can chill out and do nothing. Well, if it's possible for a mom to do nothing. Unfortunately, the house still gets dirty, kids still get hungry, and clothes still need to be laundered. I wonder if I could get a break from that, too. Now that would be a real vacation. I think I'll look for that island.
What a wonderful article!

College was made for you!
See you in a few weeks.
You're setting some pretty high standards for the rest of us. Slow down, will ya? ;-)
